My Painting Habit
Studio in 2018
Moodboard, 24 x 48, 2018
Painting is a necessity for me. It's like writing poetry except with color. But also, a painting is like a journal, but you only use one page. It's a safe place where everything is okay.

Exposure to the sun is the final process after a day of writing in color.
Time is my studio assistant. Lots and lots of time.

Deerfield River days
I'd wake up and get coffee and then go upstairs to paint, ponder the outcome, design the layer architecture, invent one shot formulas, for imagery, for that sublime moment when something reveals itself out of nothing - It was a battle between reflection and action, trying not to stare too far into the oblivion, while convincing myself to trust in the simple mechanics of painting. This, to me was about outcome, after all. It was about stepping back and thinking about thinking about painting, then crashing down in confusion, wrestling with possibilities, asking myself all kinds of questions. Well, I found joy and peace in paining above all, a meditation on revealing, creating new pictures - for the sake of pure need to shed, to involve myself in the material around me somehow, to allow stuff to happen.

The paintings are a result of the ritualistic destruction of perfectly good paintbrushes.
